The
McKane & Associates
The
educationally qualified dental assistant is a highly competent
individual possessing skills and knowledge of value in patient care.
The assistant is able to relieve the dentist of those activities
that do not require the dentist’s professional skill and judgment.
However, the responsibilities assigned to the assistant are
limited by the regulations of the dental practice act of the state in
which he or she practices.
As
a member of the dental health team, the assistant has very definite
obligations and responsibilities to the dentist, the patients and the
other team members. Depending on the size of the dental practice and the
way it is organized, dental assistants may be expected to perform a
variety of clinical, office and laboratory duties.
In small, single dentist practices, dental assistants may manage
the office in addition to their clinical responsibilities, arranging and
confirming appointments, receiving patients, keeping treatment records,
sending bills, receiving payments, and ordering dental supplies and
materials. Our comprehensive training program provides a thorough theoretical and practical course of study that will build on the academic skills of the novice dental assistant and will refine and enhance the skills of the experienced assistant. Our broad curriculum, which covers everything from the basics to the specific needs of assistants who specialize in pediatrics, surgery, endodontics, orthodontics and periodontics, can be custom designed to fit the specific needs of your practice. Our highly trained staff of consultants can help your dental assistant acquire new levels of competence and confidence in the following areas:
