Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director, Division of Dental Hygiene, Dental School, University of Maryland Certificate in Dental Hygiene, University of Detroit Bachelor of Science, University of Maryland Baltimore Master of Science, Johns Hopkins University Doctor of Philosophy, University of Maryland College Park Dr. Parker began her career in dental hygiene education after extensive private practice experience in general, pediatric and periodontal practices. In addition to her role as lecturer and clinical instructor in dental hygiene, she has lectured to both dental and medical students, as well as residents in the Specialty Programs within the Dental School. Her areas of expertise include patient assessment, periodontal therapy and soft tissue management protocols, instrumentation and ergonomics, and patient adherence and motivation. She has numerous publications and research experience requisite for her position as Graduate Program Director. Dr. Parker has been active in dental hygiene national, state and local organizations since graduation, serving as past President of Greater Baltimore Dental Hygiene Society, Secretary of the Maryland Dental Hygienists’ Association, and as the educational program director for the Y2K celebration of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association in Washington, DC. She has also been an active member of the American Dental Educators’ Association, holding positions of leadership as Section Chair of Education Research, Development and Curriculum, the Program Directors’ Conference Planning Committee and on various other committees within that educational organization. She has served the ADA Council on Dental Accreditation as a curriculum specialist in dental hygiene, and as the Council’s representative on accreditation site visits. Dr. Parker serves the North East Regional Board as a consultant. Dr. Parker has earned many awards over her career in dental hygiene education such as Distinguished Alumna from the University of Detroit Mercy as well as numerous teaching awards from her students. B. Pastore was born, raised, and educated in Baltimore, Maryland and
began her professional involvement in the dental field as a chairside
assistant in the practice of Dr. Stanley Becker. After attending
numerous continuing education courses sponsored by the Maryland State
Dental Society, she was licensed in Radiology, QDA, and Expanded
Functions. In 1984, she was awarded an Associate Degree in Dental
Hygiene from Community College of Baltimore. A licensed RDH, she is a
member of the MSDHA. Since
1979, she worked at several private practices, utilizing her education
and clinical training as an assistant and as a hygienist in the dental
operatory. She has also had extensive experience serving in various
management and administrative positions. She is a skilled and efficient
office manager, business manager, and front desk administrator with a
keen ability to supervise and coordinate practice operations. Debra
currently represents McKane & Associates at Prizm Dental, where her
managerial skills are being utilized in upgrading the systems
in affiliated Prizm practices. Committed
to staying abreast of developments in the profession, Debra has attended
Dental Boot Kamp, Practice Management seminars offered by Paragon,
Quest, Schuster and advanced Perio and Clinical Courses for Dental
Hygiene taught by Dr. Ian Shuman. Debra is currently pursuing a
Bachelor’s Degree and has completed numerous courses at UMBC and
College Park towards this goal. She is trained in OSHA protocol and is
qualified to administer CPR. Proficient in Dentrix Software and various computer programs, Debra served as Head of Training for “Pathways to Success, the First Administrative Front Desk Health Care Training Program for Empowerment Zone Residents,” which was created by McKane & Associates in conjunction with the EBCC as a welfare-to-work training and placement program. Her administrative experience and clinical expertise was an invaluable asset to the program.
